I really liked this book. It is a historical romance but it also involves a crime that has to be solved. This book kept me turning each page and i had a hard time putting it down.

Did not enjoy this story at all. I finished it but I felt like I wasted my time. The story was far fetched and unbelievable and the main characters were dull beyond belief. I didn't like the heroine at all and really had no idea why any of the characters were the way they were. Even the hero was lacking although the picture of him certainly made me drool! :)
I usually enjoy Ms. Camp but I wouldn't recommend this story at all...

I really like this author but could not really get into this installment of the Moreland Family. There did not seem to be any chemistry between the Hero and heroine and the mystery was not interesting enough to keep me turning the pages. I will continue to read this author but this book will not stay on my keeper shelf.
Anna had refused Reeds proposal years ago. But when he has recurring dreams of her being in dire trouble, he returns to Winterset. A murder brings them together to solve the mystery and understand the legends surrounding the mansion.
Strong heroine, and beguiling hero. Outstanding story, as others have said in their reviews. I believe Camp has more gumption to her work than Holt or Whitney!

A better-than-usual romance. Just a little different.
Regency romance -Anna refuses Reed's offer of marriage, but he cannot forget her. He has a vision of her in trouble & goes to find her.

Interesting and lyrical writing.
Following in the footsteps of Victoria Holt and Phyllis Whitney, Camp takes a traditional gothic tale, complete with a dark setting, a dangerous secret, mysterious murders and intelligent characters and finds a fresh approach, turning this into a riveting, edge-of-the-seat thriller.
When Reed Moreland begins suffering from haunting dreams of Anna Holcomb, the woman who rebuffed him, he decides to return to Winterset.
Though Anna loves Reed, marriage is impossible because she might be carrying a strain of madness in her blood. But Reed's return has her yearning for him. Just as their relationship begins to grow, a series of murders casts a shadow over them. Could Anna become the next victim of The Beast, a raging killer, or is she somehow connected to the crimes?
Camp weaves her tale carefully, bringing the dark Victorian world to life. Her strong characters and perfect pacing keep you turning the pages of this chilling mystery. Your jaw will drop when the truth is revealed.

a enjoyable reading experience
despite its graceful beauty, winterset remains shrouded in the mystery of its dark past
HISTORICAL ROMANCE
not my usual cup of tea but not a bad read
This was such a sweet story. Two estranged lovers coming back together to rekindle their romance. The characters were so sweet too. You wanted to know all about their story. A definite page-turner.
Good historical romance story.
