This is one of the few books I simply haven't been able to finish.

The story felt mysterious at first and I excitedly kept waiting for details about the world to fill it out. I kept waiting. And waiting.
The mystery is charming for a while but after some time it makes the reading feel unsatisfying.

The concept behind the world is interesting, a mix of spec fic with some fantasy elements. The premise of the novel is interesting, though it becomes less interesting as nothing ever really happens to advance the plot. This whole book feels like a preamble.

Finally, I just can't stomach some things. Fleshed out pedophelia is one of them. While it can be said this was used to give perspective on the revealed world, I feel that some things are endorsed by giving them a sense of charm and appeal, even in a fantasy setting. Very young child prostitutes should not be written of in a way that encourages such abuse.
