The Year's Most Highly Acclaimed Thriller-
John Sandford's most terrifying PREY novel...
The Iceman crept up to the house on the edge of the lake. He killed the father first. Then the mother and child. And when his work was done, he set the house on fire...
Lucas Davenport had tracked killers in cities across America. But the woods of rural Wisconsin are as dark and primal as evil itself. The winters are harsher and colder. And in the heart of every mother and father, there is fear...
Because tonight, the Iceman cometh.

WINTER PREY, the fifth book in the Lucas Davenport series, is the best of the Prey novels that I have read so far.
The plot is straightforward. Lucas Davenport is lured out of retirement to assist in a homicide investigation in a small Wisconsin town. A serial killer is a work, and Davenport has to find him before he strikes again. In the meantime, he develops a serious romantic relationship with a local doctor.
WINTER PREY is suspenseful and exciting. Unlike many of the Prey novels, the identity of the killer is concealed from the reader. So this novel is not just a thriller, but a whodunit (which increases the suspense). All the supporting characters are interesting and likable. I also enjoyed the romantic relationship in this book, which is very well developed.
This book is relatively graphic, and contains a high level of sex and violence. If you're easily disturbed by such content, you should skip this novel. Otherwise, I think you're in for a treat; WINTER PREY is a really entertaining book and I heartily recommend it.

I've enjoyed them all, but this was definitly my favorite Davenport book so far! The change in characters with rich development was great. And it was nice to go back to not knowing who the killer was and having to guess. I've read them all before, but forgot most of the details so it was also really cool to reread the beginning of Lucas's relationship with Weather. (not really a spoiler since the minute a woman enters one of these books you know they'll get together in some capacity :) Truly hard to put down!

Solving a serial murder case is bad enough in good weather but throw in sub-zero Minnesota temperatures and the action becomes dicier. Lucas Davenport is again thrown in the mix with the baddest of the bad guys. Another installment in a great character series.

The setting of this book was fascinating. Just the descriptions of a small town living through a Wisonsin blizzard are worth the price of this book. Not a bad who-dunnit either.
HAs one scarey badguy.

John Sandford is one of my favorite authors. This book was a very good read. It's about a Minneapolis cop who comes to a small town to help the local cops work on a homicide case since the case is something the small town as never seen before. You would never guess who the murderer is.

This is the 5th book in the Prey series. Each book gets better as John Sandford hones his craft of writing. This takes place in the brutal winter and the killings are definitely brutal. A lot of red herrings are thrown t the reader. Overall, a good read.
