Historical fiction for older children, told in first person by an Abenaki Indian young man who rescues his mother and sister after they have been kidnapped by Roger's Rangers during the French and Indian War (1759)- after the Rangers have massacred many of his relatives and burned their village to the ground. Bruchac has written many books for young people about American Indians, part of his own heritage. Book has won several awards.
