This is a great book by Dean Koontz. He just keeps you on the edge of your seat wondering what is coming next in the book. The events which occur to the little boy and the dog had me constantly anticipating what was about to happen, and then he throws the curve ball and it's nothing like you thought it was gonna be. NOT A PREDICTABLE BOOK BY NO MEANS.
I loved IT!

A brush with death prompts L.A. policeman Jack McGarvey to move wife Heather and son Toby up to Quartermass Ranch, a Montana estate bequeathed to them by Eduardo Fernandez, the father of Jack's former partner. The McGarveys settle in, dismissing strange noises and smells, as well as weird trances that seem to grip Toby from time to time, as the embodiment of common fears of urbanites confronted by open spaces. It seems Eduardo had had uninvited visitors: the Givers, creatures from another dimension who came for an incomprehensible, apparently evil purpose. Scared out of his wits, Ed succumbed to a heart attack, but not before scrawling his discovery on a legal pad and stashing it in the freezer. These Givers are actually takers, assuming control of bodies and corpses to use them as vehicles in which to create mayhem. And now they want control of Toby.

Scariest book I've ever read. I love Stephen King, but I'd cheat for Dean Koontz. This is a must-read for horror and sci-fi fans! Read it alone with the lights off.

An excellent book, showing Koontz's skill at combining horror, suspense and just plain creepiness.

In Los Angeles, a hot Hollywood director, high on PCP, turns a city street into a fiery apocalypse. Five die. Heroic LAPD officer Jack McGarvey is badly wounded and lands in the hospital for months, uncertain if he'll ever walk again. While he's out of commission, his wife and young son are left to defend themselves against both the criminals that control an increasingly violent city and the dead director's cult of fanatic fans.

Gripping Koontz suspense that follows two different sets of character seemingly unrelated as he weaves his way into all one story coming together! Starts with an L.A. street going up in a firey apocalypse and just doesn't stop!
This is vintage Koontz, good and scary. An LA cop and his family inherit a ranch in Montana....but what is living there with them?
When Jack McGarvey, a tough Los Angeles cop, is badly injured and his new partner killed by a drug-maddened punk, he feels hes had it with the city. He moves with his wife, Heather, and their 8-year-old son, Toby, to a ranch he has inherited in Eagles Roost, Montana, where they expect to enjoy a quiet, safe life. What Jack and Heather dont know is that they previous owner had died of sheer terror. For something inhuman lurks in the woods around the ranch, something more dangerous, more purely evil, than any threat in the city streets, something that has targeted little Toby for its own.
I completely loved this book and I reccomend it to anyone.
If you enjoy Dean Koontz you'll enjoy this one.

As always, an excellent read by Dean Koontz...definite page turner!

Had never read anything from this horror author. Yep, don't read it at night alone especially if you live in an out of the way area. The actual story wasn't that great, but Koontz is a master of the build-up that makes you reluctant to read the next page, but yet your HAVE to. A spine-tingler for sure.
Heart touching / spine tingling
One word... CORNY! Don't waste your time.
