This book is pretty good. Not the best mystery I had read but interesting and intriguing. Hope someome enjoys it!
This 10th V.I. Warshawski book is a collection of short stories. Some of the other characters and friends take more of a role in these stories.
In "Grace Notes", V.I. meets an Italian cousin that may want to meet family and may want something else. In "Pietro Andromache", Dr. Lotte Hershold, VI's old friend is accused of murder over an old, sentimental artifact. "At the Swimming Hole" has VI helping an old friend at a swim meet, where she witnesses a murder. In "The Takamoku Joseki" VI had to reason through a traditional game who murdered a Japanese-American neighbor. Although this is a very different format, Paretski does a good job of developing her stories in a quick manner. I still like the novel format best!

don't particularly care for v.i. warshawski, but if u like her character then this book is for u.
A compilation of 9 short stories featuring Chicago private detective V.I. Warshawski, with a brief author's note discussing why she occasionally writes short stories and a clever introduction describing V.I. Warshawski's Chicago. Some of these stories are definitely more engaging than others. I think my favorite is "The Pietro Andromache," told from the point of view of V.I.'s friends Lotty Herschel and Max Loewenthal. The investigation ends with the classic scene: the detective gathering the principal suspects together, exposing each one's hidden agenda, and finally drawing out a confession. Bravissimo!

Collection of short stories starring ace detective V.I. Warshawski. Short stories aren't Paretsky's forte, but still an interesting read for V.I. fans like me.

The ever-popular Paretsky is back with a book of nine short stories featuring that revered idol of the female PI genre, V. I. Warshawski. Although V. I.'s just as feisty and tough-talking as ever, she presents a somewhat softer side in this series of stories that gives a nostalgic nod to Vic's friends, family, and past. In "Grace Notes," readers learn more about her mysterious Italian musical mama when a long-lost cousin shows up looking for sheet music that belonged to the mother Vic barely knew. Vic's friend Lotty Herschel is featured in "Pietro Andromache," which has Vic uncovering art fraud when a sculpture that once belonged to Lotty's Nazi-destroyed family turns up. There's little doubt that the book will be another runaway best-seller for the unstoppable Paretsky or that V. I. will remain an unstoppable, untoppable superstar.
It's a good read as usual. Each Chapter is another story which was a surprise. I can't wait to read the next.

I was somewhat disappointed because this book is really a collection of stories. I recognised one from a previous book and was a little confused as to what I was reading. The stories are fine but I like the longer whole book story best.
