Books like this are a great weekend read, but I'll probably forget all about it by this time next week. Nothing great or bad about it, I enjoyed reading it, and it was interesting to see some different characters, but nothing really memorable. Overall I liked it and will probably look for something else from this author, but maybe something with a little more substance. I had thought, from the description, that this would have a little more suspense to it, but in general it was very mild. I guess I felt dissatisfied by the ending. It's as if all the emphasis is on the characters ability to verbalize to each other and their loved ones "what happened at Bluegang Creek", which is a nice first step, but what HAPPENED??? Did anyone go to jail, or get embarrased publicly, or lose their job, or be run out of town, or have revenge taken on them, or what? I was waiting for a THING to happen, an EVENT, not just "Gee girls, glad we got that out of the way! Well, back to life as usual only now better!". Good for you ladies, but there are dead people and shattered families and lies to deal with still, so what about all that? But, not to sound too negative, it was an imaginative, well-written story, and I like the setting in California and all the references to plants and gardening, it was an interesting and smart way to round out the stories. Nice job overall.

This book is not my favorite of this author's books. It is an okay read, but nothing mind-blowing. It starts out with a lot of drama and action, but goes on to be mainly about 3 middle-aged women and what their lives have become. In this book the author tends to write a lot about her characters' thoughts and emotions rather than tell an earth-shattering story.
