I had a hard time getting into this one, it had been awhile since I had read a Dirk & Steele story and I had a little trouble connecting the characters. I remembered reading about them, but not as much as would have helped. After the first third or so, the story took on enough characteristics of its own that I was able to enjoy it. There was a surprising amount of suspense which was the best part of this novel. Fans of the series will certainly want to read this, but if you haven't read any of the others, this may be a tough book to like.

Good read. This one was about one of the gargoyle brothers [if you read the novella in Dark Dreamers] and Alice [introduced in Soul Song I think] who has had her memories destroyed and is being pursued/possessed. To say the VERY least they both have trust issues...

I loved this book! Dirk & Steele books are getting better all the time. Love the concept of the gargoyle.

One the best of this series. I keep expecting the series to get stale, but they have fresh scenarios with the thread connecting them.

Wonderful! Just what I expected from a Liu book! Lots of life-endangering scenes, mystery and magical wonders to keep the mind on edge. A very interesting ending... (hint, hint, READ THE BOOK!)

this is an excellent book in the Dirk and Steele series though more about the 2 main characters, A true beauty and the beast story, Lots of the action and tense drama you come to expect with one of Liu's books

This book seriously sucked. I don't know what the author was thinking when she wrote this one, but it is sooo not up to the quality of writing we're use to with this series.

Don't say I didn't warn you.

from back cover
"A woman wakes in a strange room, covered in blood, surrounded by the dead. She does not know who she is. Pinned on her jacked is a crumpled note. Run, it reads. If you have yet to add Liu to your must-read list, your're doing yourself a disservice."---booklist
I recommend every one of these books in the Dirk & Stelle series...paranormal detective agency.
