A great mystery from an even greater writer. I read it in a couple of hours, unwilling -- perhaps even physically unable -- to put it down.

As usual, Francis keeps you on the edge of your seat, but he doesn't make you think too hard. An excellent "airplane" or beach book.

"Wild Horses" combines the nitty gritty of making a feature length film with a 26-year-old murder mystery within the racing community of Newmarket. Fast-paced and enjoyable read with believable characters.

I love Dick Francis' books, all his books keep you guessing until the very end. This one is very different from his usual stories, some horse racing, but not the main theme....

Thomas Lyon finally has his chance to direct a potential blockbuster, based on the true story of an unsolved crime that rocked the horse racing world twenty-six years earlier. But a cryptic deathbed confession, an assault on an elderly woman, and a frightening threat lead Lyon to pick up the thread of this unfinished tale -- and follow it through to its perilous end.

Dick Francis is a great storyteller, and he deviates from his usual race track plots in this one. It is about making a movie and I really liked the new twist. Guess I just like to pretend I could live in GB and soak up that historic atmosphere. If you're a Francis fan, I think you'll enjoy this bit of a different slant on things.

"Once a blacksmith, now famous and respected as a newspaperman, Valentine Clark knows everyone who is anyone in the racing world. Anged, confused, blind, and dying, he harbors a daunting secret. He makes his death=bed confession to his visitng film-director friend, Thomas Lyon, whom in his delerium he mistakes for a priest. Unburdened and at peace, he passes away, yet his legacy remains, guarded by Lyon.

On location in Newmarket, Lyon is troubled by the old man's secret. Seeking to understand this puzzling revelation, he uncovers a long-resolved mystery that he soon finds is very much unforgotten. But as much as he wants to know more, it seems he already knows too much. Imaginative and decisive though he may be, he will need superhuman courage and extreme cunning to stay alive."

The plot gains amazing depth through the eyes of Lyon, a filmmaker, who buys the rights to the old story and begins to film. A fascinating read, the film develops as the plot thickens, culminating in a breathtaking cinematic scene! My favorite book of all the Francis books!

This is the first Dick Francis novel that I have listened to - after finishing this one, I'll probably seek out more of his offerings.

Wild Horses to me, has no loose ends. The pacing is above par, and most importantly, at no point was I ever bored! This book was thouroghly entertaining - which is a rarity for me lately.

Not being a horse racing fan, I will admit that I found the "racing scene" a great experience.

An inside look at movie making and horse racing, with a surprising twist. Kept my interest page after page.

Another "highly readable" book from Dick Francis. I'll admit to liking some of his books more than others, but this is one of his good ones. In this case, the hero is a movie director, out to solve a 26-year-old mysterious death all while directing a mega-star in what will eventually be an Oscar winning film. There are horses, of course, amidst all the movie-making. This is another gentle, yet fast-paced winner from Dick Francis. I enjoyed this book immensely.

You can't beat Dick Francis for good, solid, gripping mysteries. They are always intelligent, well-written, & you can't wait to hear what happens.
