Sarah has lost her confidence as a doctor because she wasn't forceful enough in getting help for the man she loved. Michael feels like he shouldn't become emotionally involved with anyone because of the guilt he carries from medics' war deaths. When these two meet their walls are firmly in place, but by the end they have found a way to connect. The book has some good medical rescues but can be repetitive in regard to the emotional issues with which they each struggle.
