Michael Chalfoun does a wonderful job evoking the hopeless hope that exists amongst people who lose the fabric of their environment to outside forces. Desperate times calls for desperate measures amongst his characters in this novel. You can see yourself doing the same in their shoes with as much trepidation and drama coupled with the sameness of an everyday, ordinary life. That small town life includes the usual decisions about sex/love, drinking and working in a small fishing town being taken over by tourists.
