I haven't read this book, so maybe I shouldn't have given it 1/2 star. I did read some of the reviews on Amazon and there were those who did rate it poorly.

However, based on this statement in the description, here and on Amazon:

"In 1943, Captain Sokol is a surgeon in the U.S. Marines stationed in Auckland, New Zealand..."

I'd say the author didn't do his research well. There are no surgeons in the Marines, just as there are no other medical personnel in the Marines. The medical personnel---doctors and corpsman (what the Navy and the Marines call medics)--- are all in the Navy. But many were assigned to the Marines. And as far as most Marines are concerned, their corpsmen walk on water.
