After reading reviews of Mike Resnick's previous work, I was expecting an engaging book. Unfortunately, none of his previously noted talent was apparent in this book. The plot was thin with characters that were stereotypical and lacking in any depth. Perhaps the best description of the book is a stock western theme wrapped in science fiction not near as good as Firefly.
