I don't think I have ever liked a heroine less than I liked Athena McAlister. I found her to be tedious and incredibly annoying. She was rude, arrogant, stupidly stubborn and selfish. She never took into consideration the harm she could cause the other women in her academy if their special curriculum was found out. Athena was 28 years old, but I found her to act like a spoiled 16 year old. Actually, I had a problem with all the females in the story, they were weak-willed, silly or arrogant and rude. I would have liked Hester and Justine if they had shown more backbone throughout the story, except at the very end.

Athena was madly in love with a man she'd never spoken to, and was absolutely thrilled when he proposed to her within their first conversation. She discovered him moments after the proposal rutting with another woman, causing her to be heartbroken and angry. I found it extremely difficult to sympathize with her, because I liked her so little. I was also irritated by the fact that a month after her school began, MOST of her students were either married or betrothed...whatever...it was a little to contrived for me to believe that such a thing would even be possible.

I liked Marshall, sure he was a bit arrogant and had high expectations, but he was also a navel sea captain, so he was used to being in charge and listened to without anyone questioning his authority, it was to be expected. He seemed to grow with the story, he learned to understand himself, his family and Athena. Athena sadly did not grow for me. She went from rude and arrogant to oh I love you, please never ever leave me sappiness in a flash.

This heroine was a pain in the butt. She was so mean, selfish and could not get over just about anything and everything a man had done or said to her. This makes her hard to like but the hero sure does. The storyline was fun, quick witted and tense. Had a great pace and a couple of interesting twists. Great 3rd book!

Although this book starts off slow, it is deffinitly worth getting through the first few chapters. Once the book picked up steam, I was totally hooked and finished in one afternoon. I enjoyed the interaction between H/h. This book is a great read.

An excellent addition to the Pleasure Emporium series. I was thoroughly engaged by the storyline, and didn't put the book down until I was done!
