Christine Wells put a lot of emotion into this book. Sarah is a woman disillusioned by years of marriage to a scoundrel. Vane is a man who has loved Sarah from afar. Murder and mysteryand misunderstandings bring these two lovers together. However, Sarah has much hurt to overcomenot only from a two-timing husband, but estrangement from a much-worshiped father and issues carried over from her adulteress mothernot to mention the misunderstandings between her and Vane. Of course, things are never what they seemwhich makes for a good story. Watch how these two characterseach needing love but afraid of rejectiongo through the challenges, bumps and bruises to get to happiness. The final confrontation brought tears to my eyes. A GOOD read!

Really enjoyed this book. The author sets up an immediate but forbidden attraction between the two main characters--Sarah and Vane--even though she is already married (however unhappily). Intrigue, betrayal and murder keep the couple wondering if they can find a way to be happy together. Also, Sarah has an overwhelming fear of falling in love with Vane that threatens to break both of their hearts.

My first time to read something by this author. I will watch for her next book--and hope it is as good as this one.
