Summary:
Dante is the Beta wolf in the Phoenix pack. He's a workaholic who doesn't want to get tied down. He's been in love once before and now is a commitmentphobe. Jaime has had a crush on Dante for pretty much ever. She overhears him talking not so great things about her and decides it's over. She's going to focus on other men or wolves or both. Dante, of course, decides that now if the time to check out Jaime. He misses her attention when she isn't giving it all to him. Of course the relationship is not automatically perfect. The banter between them is hilarious. Then of course there are other things that get in the way, like ex's, secrets, and clothing (hehe), but love's just got to find a way through.

My thoughts:
There is a lot of sex in this novel. Honestly, it was a little more than I expected. I don't feel like there was quite as much sex in the first book. The sex is very creative and a bit different each time. The scenes are not boring and I didn't skip over them to get back to the plot, but my goodness, hot and steamy! Dante is the cutest thing ever. He is all rough and tough but softens around the edges as the relationship begins. It's adorable to see him try to do things and then they never come out quite right. The fact that he tries so hard to show Jaime he cares for her is melt-worthy. Jaime is not a complete submissive, she barks and bites just like a sassy heroine should; however, she also placates Dante now and then. I've read people that didn't like those parts, but I think they are a bit more realistic. Sometimes we have to just pet our male's ego.

Jamie Farrow has been obvious in her attraction to the Beta of her pack, Dante Garcea. She has all but stripped naked and attacked him. Then one day she decides to pick up her ego and quit throwing herself at a man who isnt interested then suddenly Dante isnt happy about not having her undivided attention. But Jamie has a few big secrets shes keeping from her pack, and that makes her think getting involved with Dante could get complicated.

I love wolf/shifter stories and this one is excellent. The dynamics of the pack and its people are a first-rate back drop to the love story that is the obvious star. I got so wrapped up in the characters that I found myself crying a bit in empathy as one pack member repeatedly suffers heartache. Jamie and Dante are not easy characters to love, but once you do you find yourself feeling loyalty towards these two stubborn wolves. And the sex, by Goddess the sex, it is as raw and gritty as their personalities and fanflippintastic!

This is the second book in the Phoenix Pack Series. I admit I havent read the first one, and if it is half as good as this second book, I definitely feel like I am missing out. Luckily while reading I did not, however, feel like I was lost. The author gives enough background information to bring us up to date. Had this book not been so good, I could have easily gone without ever reading the first. But this book was that good and I want to read the first book now, I want all the detail that started this series out. I really enjoyed it.

So why only 4 stars? Some of the dialogue and name calling between Dante and Jamie felt really disingenuous to me like the author was trying too hard to make the characters voices tough. It was over the top for me, and not at all necessary.

Other than that this story was fabulous. I will be reading the first one to kill the time while I pine for the third!
