I love this book. As a music teacher, it provides ample opportunities to get the students involved in vocal play, instrument play and acting. The story is a wonderful fable for children who are telling whopper tales and the consequences of such. The illustrations are beautiful. Can you tell? I love this book!

This is the Weekly Reader version of this Caldecott Medal winning book. The story is an African folk tale involving a mosquito who caused such a disturbance that mother owl's owlet is injured and dies and mother owl will not come out and wake the sun. The mosquito escapes the wrath of the animal council but still today buzzes about asking "Zee is everyone still mad at me?"

The illustrations of the animals throughout are very interesting. The illustrations are actually water colors, pastels and india ink which were then cut out of vellum to create the wood cut effect as seen on the cover.
