The most recent one in the Grace and Favor series and the worst one there is! I loved all the others, but this one was totally lacking. Lily and Robert were reduced to bit players and took no part at all in solving the mystery. Robert was involved in a lot of the town's going ons, which was nice to see, but other than that his character was rather flat. Lily wasn't a strong presence at all, which is a real bummer as I like her the best. The book focused on the sherrif and his new deputy and how they solved a crime. I hope Churchill doesn't coninue the series in this manner because the substance has really gone downhill.

The Grace & Favor Mystery series are always a good read, but this one is my least favorite.

Not much of a mystery, and it seems to be solved by routine police work, not by an amateur sleuth or two. Was disturbed by an apparent anachronism - a vending machine in the train depot before WWII. Don't know for sure, but that certainly seems suspect.

Fun reading for fans of this series who want to catch up on the characters' lives, but not much of a mystery this time.

This was a disappointment to me. Although I enjoyed reading how the townfolks were doing and coping with the depression, there wasn't enough mystery for my tastes. I was really looking forward to this one too.

Fifth in the series of Grace and Favor mysteries, set in Depression days and featuring a formerly rich brother and sister. All of a sudden there are bad feelings against immigrants in Brewster, N.Y., and a train porter is murdered. Are the two connected? Lily and Robert investigate.

This continues to be a very gentle series, with some nicely researched history added in. A quick read.

I liked this one very much. I just like the flavor of these books, you get to know all the characters. There were some loose ends that weren't tied in, but I still enjoyed it greatly.
