I have not yet seen the book, but Ms. Gross had the author on her show on WHYY (18 April 2017) to flog her book.
The author was deputy Chief of Staff for Operations at the White House for a couple of years, after earlier service with Obama in his campaigns and an earlier White House appointment. The book is wide ranging, offering a view of what it is like. We can see how it is exhausting, there being so many irons in the fire.
The President is indeed well served and the author was high enough in the food chain to interact with many other elements, such as being where the buck stops in regard to the operation of Camp David. She herself ordered the plane to edge out the Red Chinese as the presidential party was hurrying to depart Jakarta as bad weather threatened to leave them stuck in Indonesia.
Personal things such as the pride of flying on Air Force One but having to sleep on the floor (the seats fold down somewhat but are uncomfortable) and having to arise early to have a crack at one of the two bathrooms available are revealed.
