Maybe this author was paid by the word because she shared each time the heroine crawled into bed (bizarre). I'm sure authors create unpleasant characters to give them depth. However, the story is less interesting when all the characters are slightly off-kilter. It isn't realistic that all the characters were squirrels.

Creating a TV journalist character would be a new twist. However, it became apparent that the author was barking up the wrong tree because Ellie thought she could out-police a police detective. Having the police detective split tasks with Ellie was unrealistic (and labeled the author inexperienced).

The plot was so thin that I figured it out when the suspects were mentioned. Was stealing a puppy from a puppy mill a good ideaâwhen and why? It showed that this character has little to commend her. I want to know the name of that vet who cured the puppy of distemper in less than a week. That is miraculous; it took our pet almost a month to recover.

I like to give new authors a chance. However, this author made too many inexperienced author-type mistakes. I don't plan to read any other books by this writer.
