My first experience with Jack Higgins' books and I liked it a lot. I'll be looking for more of his to read. It's not often that I am rooting for the assasin, but in this case, I was cheering her on as she went about methodically wiping out a sinister gang of IRA terrorist.

I got this book free when someone posted a small box of books on a local buy nothing Facebook page. I don't think I've ever read anything by this author. According to Google, this is book 7 of a 22-book series. Based on some Amazon reviews, this book isn't up to the standards of other books in this series.

I guess this book would be characterized as a "political thriller." The version I have is 322 pages. I read it in a few days. It would have been helpful if the author had included a rather large cast of characters. I found it confusing initially to figure out who was who. I thought it was an OK read. Of course, a couple of the characters had to do something colossally stupid to keep the story going. One was when when Ferguson decided he needed to accompany Dillon to capture the main bad guy (Barry). Of course, that didn't go well and Barry escaped. Then Lady Helen Lang, the main character, managed to get Barry's phone number and called him a few times. She didn't identify herself by name but at one point told him why she planned to get him. And, eventually her identity was learned.

One by one, members of the secreat IRA splinter group known as the Sons of Erin are being murdered. The consequences are greater than anyone realizes. For in theses actions lies the destruction of two governments-and the fall of the Irish peace process.

A New York Time,s bestseller, and as intriguing as all of his books, maybe the best of them.
