Searching for her missing father, the determined Emma O'Brien sets out for Fort Pierre on the Missouri River, but when the steamboat upon which she is traveling goes aground, she is forced to travel on foot. Braving the wilderness, the feisty beauty is soon seized by Indians. Surrounded by enemies, Emma learns that only Striking Thunder can grant her release.

The handsome Sioux chieftain offers her freedom but enslaves her with a kiss. He takes her to his village. There, underneath the prairie's starry skies, Emma learns the truth. The danger Striking Thunder represents is greater than the pre-war bonfires of the entire Sioux nation -- and the passion he offers burns a whole lot hotter.
