Good read that catches you up on many of the characters from the first two books but way too many subplots and not enough time on the main characters.

Going back to the community of Virgin River is a treat. All of the familiar characters are there, and the story is sweet and interesting, though not as good as the first or second in the series.
All in all, worth a read.

One of the best books I've read this year!
Helpful Score: 3
This is the 3rd book of the series and I have enjoyed the storyline. This is not a "deep" book, just a good entertaining read. The sort of book that makes a rainy day pass nicely.

Great book. Story continues. A must read if you've read the book 1 & 2. Love the hero of this book. Yummy.

This is the 3rd book in Carr's Virgin River series. She continues to develop the characters and weave together the lives of those in the town.

3.5 stars for this book--it's a solid addition to the series. This particular book is about Bree and Mike but I caution readers that like all of Robyn Carr's books, it's not so much a romance focused and centered around one couple as it is an ungoing tale of the town of Virgin River as a whole. This means a lot of the extended stories of old characters, and the introduction of brand new ones. Personally I like this, but it's something to be aware of.
Bree, a prosecuting attorney, is just getting over her divorce and the loss of a major case when tragedy strikes her yet again. She's brutally attacked by a criminal she tried to put in prison. Mike, a close family friend, is himself barely recovered from a shooting that nearly killed him. Mike is already half in love with Bree when he sets himself to the task of helping her heal and move on. Their romance is sweet and touching.
I really love all of the characters in this little world that Carr has created. Each is unique in personality, amusing in their own way, and easy to relate to. The characters are what draw readers in and keep them reading. The plot of this book is not tremendously exciting and there are no surprises. Yet it's an uplifting, fulfilling read.

Mike is recovering from a career ending shooting. He helps Jacks sister through her own recovery after she was attacked and hurt badly. They heal slowly and help each other through the emotional struggles and wind up in love.
I love this series. Each book has new main characters but I really love to see the continuation of stories from previous books. I can't get enough of Jack and Mel who ancor the town and the books, not to mention the cameos from the Grace Valley crew. I love how each of her books have the main romance but she gives lots of supporting characters and relationships significant time. It's like watching a movie with multiple stories going on. I hope she never stops writing the virgin river books!
Read in order, the stories continue from book to book.

This is the third book in Robyn Carr's Virgin River series and is as wonderful as the other two. You get drawn into the lives of Brie and Mike. Robyn Carr has such wonderful characters that you won't be able to put the book down until you know everything that happens to them.

Awesome continuing story - this author really makes you feel like you should live in the town of Virgin River.
This is the 3rd book in the series. I hadn't read the 2nd book in awhile and I was still able to catch up with the characters. Looking forward to reading the 4th book:)
So far I have not been disappointed with this series. This is the story of Mike and Brie. Very good read; strong characters and those from the previous two books are also in this one.
I have read this entire series (up to book 20)and loved it! That said, I have a special place in me heart for Mikes story. This book and book 1, Jacks story, are by far my favorites. And books I currently have on my "books to reread" list.

I like the series, but agree that this third book was not near as good as the first two.
Love this book...love this series!
Another great book in the series - love this series - glad it is only beginning!!!
I was really excited to read Mike and Brie's story. I have read the books that take place before and after this one so it took me a little bit to figure out where the story fits with the other characters. As with Carr's other books in this series, she covers a lot of ground with other characters and introduces new ones. Here she sets the tone for Tom and Brenda / Paul and Vanni while she revisits Jack / Mel, Preacher / Paige, and a host of others. Carr does kill off two characters (I won't say who) but one of them surprisingly upset me more than I thought it would.
Most of this book dealt with rape and recover from rape. As Brie and Mike navigate through her rape, Carr also mirrors the story with multiple date rapes in the high schools. I liked that Carr was able to show the different emotions and attitudes of the survivors. It also brings home the message that it can happen anywhere and to anyone.
Again I have to say Mel is the worse midwife in the world. Everytime I have to read about one of her births I cringe because she belongs in a hospital not a homebirth midwife. If you have read my other reviews on this series, you will know that she is my least favorite character in the series.
Through all that, there is romance and heartbreak. It was hard to put down. A great read.

enjoyed this one, too
The Virgin River series is wonderful. I love how she continues to add new characters while weaving it in with the characters from the previous book. I live in Chico, I know the area she describes, they make my heart sing.
Loved it. I have really fallen in love with the Virgin River series. I loved reading about Mike and Brie and enjoyed experiencing their romance grow into love. Another winner from Mrs. Carr!!!
Excellent as always!
This book had a little darker theme in them than the first two (not that domestic abuse is lighthearted, but...), so it took me a little longer to get through it than the others.
I feel as though Matt didn't have a chance, that Carr kind of set him up, but, I'm sure she has a plan for Vanessa.
The birth video scene was hilarious! I love how grossed out he was, but how his mind changed when it was time for the real thing.
It seemed like from the middle ...moreExcellent as always!

It seemed like from the middle of the book, it was less concentrated on Mike and Brie, but perhaps setting up storylines for future books, and concentrating on the world around them. Maybe I just wanted more Mike and Brie!
The audio book narrator, Therese Plummer, is amazing! I love listening to her read.
I love the natural birth and breastfeeding that Carr tends to put in every book, too

A year ago, LAPD Officer Mike Valenzuela moved to Virgin River to heal from his wounds and start his life over. Now his friend Brie Sheridan is in Virgin River, visiting her brother and recovering from a beating and rape. Mike will do anything to help Brie overcome her painful past.
I liked this book, but I wish move time could have been spent on Mike & Brie's relationship. There are lots of side stories going on. It felt like the main couple was short-changed. Still, a very good book overall and a nice addition to the Virgin River series. My rating: 4 Stars.

Book 3 to Robyn Carr's Shelter Mountain, Book 2. I so recommend reading her Virgin River Series Books and start with her Virgin River Book 1. I got hooked and just love picking up the next book in the series and continue meeting new people who come to Virgin River which by the way is a small town (fictional) outside of LA California and just a pleasant read one book to the next. I cannot wait to finish all of Robyn's Books. So, bring on the hammock and Ice Tea! If you love romance, you will love Robyn Carr novels!
***** Wonderful reading, hard to put down.
Robyn Carr has a wonderful ability to write. It has been nice to see how a town grows and how they work together. Each of her books gets better and better.
Widens the circle of the Virgin River characters.
loved it as all the others in the series
Whispering Rock is definitely not the standard romance novel. In the Virgin River series, it is by far my favorite so far. Nothing was too predictable, and we get another glimpse into more hearts of the men from the 196 :)
Lovely installment of the series.
I am enjoying all the virgin river books...trying to read them in order
