NOTE TO FANS OF THIS AUTHOR ELIZABETH LOWELL. WHIRLPOOL IS THE SAME BOOK AS "THE RUBY" PUBLISHED UNDER ELIZABETH LOWELL'S REAL NAME ANN MAXWELL! THIS IS A GOOD STORY, AS ARE ALL HER BOOKS IN MY OPINION, BUT I WAS DISAPPOINTED TO DISCOVER THAT I'D ALREADY READ IT!

Intense, suspenseful and surprising.

"Against her will Laurel is being dragged down into a swirling vortex of betrayal and violence. And there's nowhere to turn to for help--except to Cruz Rowan, an ex-FBI agent, and her father's sworn enemy. A strong, secretive and dangerous man, Cruz has his own agenda and is spinning his own webs. And he is her last and only hope..."

A father with a mysterious habit of disappearing, international intrigue and assassinations, and a secretive and dangerous man with his own agenda...Laurel Swann has her jewelers hands full in this fast moving caper involving a missing Faberge egg. You'll want to read more about this group of characters - and I'm sure Lowell won't let us down!

Another great Elizabeth Lowell novel, this one pits daughter against father in a suspense filled rush to figure out a mystery that pulls a daughter to take sides against her father with a man she just might fall in love with, if she lives.

When an exquisitely crafted, authentic imperial Faberge egg mysteriously shows up at Laurel Swann's home studio, she knows it can only be from one person-her father, who has drifted in and out of her life for as long as she can remember. But this time Jamie Swann leaves her something too many people will kill for.
Out of her league and desperate, Laurel is forced to accept help from the very man who is trying to ensnare her father in his own web of double crosses. Cruz Rowan can help her stay alive, but will he do the same for her father?
Elizabeth Lowell, writing as Ann Maxwell, deftly combines the nonstop action of a spy thriller with the heart-pounding excitement of true love and adventure.

Typical of romantic suspense, the characters are dodging bullets and lusting after each other at the same time. Moves along well with good characters and action.

Originally published as "The Ruby" in 1995. Pre-Donovans gem-centric book with a typical Lowell plot. Enjoyed it.
