I like this series not just for the interesting mystery plots but the character interactions, and Erika's story is a sad one but at least she survived to tell it. I liked the tension as Gemma and Duncan ask questions - each person they turn up as a potential lead gets murdered and they always seem to be a step behind. This time I felt the shifts into the past were...a little too long maybe, or too intrusive? Perhaps I was just so involved in the modern day story I didn't like the interruption. But that's a minor quibble, I think this was another excellent entry in the series.
