I just read this book a few years ago and really enjoyed it. Both children and adults can relate to it. Mary Call the main character is strong willed and I admire her a lot. I wanted to read it because growing up, it was a movie favorite of mine. I think it teaches many good lessons.

This was a book one of my teachers read aloud to the class after lunch (think it was 5th grade). I liked it so well I bought my own copy and seeing it on this bookshelf I was browsing makes me want to go home and find my copy and re-read it. It's a great story dealing with so much responsiblity on one young girl trying to deal with a father's death and keep it secret and come to terms with accepting someone into the family that her father didn't approve of. So good! I'm in my 40's now and still have good memories of this book and want to re-read it.
