This is a most impressive first novel; assured, evocative, compelling and well written! This book absolutely engulfed me...when I finished it, I had to fight my way back into my life. Parallel lives of two women who lived in the same farmhouse in Cornwall a hundred years apart from each other...such a sympathetic and empathetic portrayal. Loved the involvement of the Newlyn School of artists in both women's lives. Wonderful surprise at the end of the book that will delight you! Outstanding read and I highly recommend it and look forward to more books from this author.

This book flows effortlessly between the lives of two women living in the same house, 100 yrs. apart. I especially liked the way that the author characterized the 19th century story. Hopefully she has many more stories to write.
