Classic sword and sorcery by a master. If we didn't already have the Dungeons and Dragons game, this novel would show you how to construct an outstandingly good one.
There's a quest. There's a beautiful princess. There's a troubled hero. There's a cleric. There's a not-quite-human sidekick. There are goblins, fairies and dark powers.
A rollickiing read---

Simak was one of the SFWA Grand Masters. He wrote very little "pure" fantasy and not until in the later part of his writing career. Those who know the current extravagances in the fantasy field may find Simak's story unconvoluted, direct, simple, and not as epic as your usual fare. Those of you who read little fantasy but know Simak will find this one a refreshing change of pace and new interest from this outstanding author.
