Unfortunately, I found neither of the primary characters appealing or likable. Both came off as shallow, foolish, unthinking, immature people.
The premise of the book, a competition for the "Most Delectable Mistress", felt like an awkward vehicle necessary to allow the sexual content currently required in historicals rather than an interesting part of the story.
Lacked refinement.

Mixed. The beginning of the book was a little annoying. Childish bickering and snottiness toward each other. Once the real story commenced, it got better, the H&H were cute together and the romance was sweet.
However the overall situation seemed rather unrealistic. Not that we're looking for realism in romance novels, but a certain amount of sticking to what fits a time period is nice. I thought the competition was both silly and offensive. If Molly was a real lady she would have been horrified by what was going on there. I was horrified that these women were being treated like pets. Probably worse than pets.
The sensuality in this book was very weak. They were limited to a few sentences and I thought not very sensual or sweet.

I really enjoyed this book. I loved the interplay between two longtime friends that developed into foes that developed into love. Typical second son esteem issues, and a daughter who doesn't feel like she measures up.
Great relationships and characterization abounds.... can't wait for the rest of the series.
