Holy cow, this two-novella volume was intense! These stories are the kind of dark that linger in your mind for days, and just when I thought I couldn't bear what could happen next, the narrative would switch, giving me a much-needed breather. The author kept me on my toes for sure. I don't know if I can pick a favorite...both were so good. Curiously, I've never seen this book included in anyone's Halloween must-read lists. My librarian friend recommended this one. Paperbacks From Hell indeed! 4 stars.
