Miss Congeniality - Shelley Laurenston
This story was set in the mid-eighties and it was fun to get some of the early history of the Van Holtz wolf pack. There were high tech references - 1985 style - throughout the story and it added a fun campy element to the plot. This was a fun read and I would recommend it.

Wicked Ways - Cynthia Eden
This story was a romantic suspense story with a jaguar shifter as the hero. He worked/works for the FBI and the heroine is being stalked by a serial killer vampire. It was full of humor (not silliness) and also quite enjoyable.

One great read, Shelly Laurenston's Miss Congeniality, and one good read. Cynthia Eden's Wicked Ways.

Miss Congeniality stars Irene Conridge and Niles Van Holtz who were introduced in her screamingly funny Go Fetch. No, you don't HAVE to have read it before Miss Congeniality - but if you've read Go Fetch you will definitely WANT to. It's the story of Irene [no people skills and frighteningly intellectual], and the Alpha shifter who is everything she's not [physical, wealthy, and charming]. And you know what they say about opposites...

Wicked Ways is a good read but has a different feel. The shifter hero saves the heroine from a crazed vampire attack - which is complicated by the heroine not believing in vampires OR shifters... It becomes even worse when they find out the villain is apparently a serial killer. Heroine volunteers to be 'bait' so they can catch the vamp, hero vows to make sure she lives through the experience and kill the vampire... The road to their 'Happily Ever After' is a real bumpy ride...

2 stories by 2 authors. I've only read on book by Laurenston(the mane event) and it was a lot better than this one IMO but this was still a good story. It's set in the 80's and you can definitely tell it's dated since she's a computer freak raving about the latest and greatest now-dinosaur! still a good story though I never quite identified with the female. Eden's story was pretty good as well and I'd like to read more by her.

Loved both of these stories set in existing worlds of previous books.

The Laurenston was a trade-mark funny paranormal romance with a smart, tough heroine and her adoring werewolf hero.

The Eden story also had a great shifter hero, but was more of a suspense.

Both the stories were good but Shelly's made me laugh.

Miss Congeniality: Computer nerd vs hot and hunky wolf shifter. Irene has no social skills yet attracts Niles. Written in the mid 80's some of the references are dated but still a good read.

Wicked Ways: a murderous vampire, a teacher and a jaguar shifter clash in a small town. Quick and easy read

I read this book because I like both authors, not because I like anthologies.

Neither author really delivered for me in this book.

Since Laurenston's story relates to characters we meet in her other books, I liked the storyline. Eden's story just seemed a little forced. I know there isn't a lot of time to develop a relationship in a short story, but this was just too contrived for me. I'll still keep reading her novels though. :)

I gave this a rating of 3 stars.

Only read Miss Congeniality and I loved it.
Niles Van Holtz, a rich, eager to lay with any female he wants and never to settle down man, meets is total opposite. Irene Conridge, an uptight, well educated, hate sex kind of women. She has been voiding Van for 7 years and he keeps showing up to he charitable parties, but he always shows up just for her, or what he hopes to get from her. She invented a special concoction to boost life to plants, is in danger from the Russian government, she try's to get rid of it. In the process, she is basically food for hyenas and lions. Van saves her and has to agree on the least thing he would ever do to save her.
