Fiction?? Ok maybe the story line but not the investigation.. I couldn't believe how right on the book was through out. I kept thinking either this author has a psychic/medium working with her or she's a psychic/medium.
Seriously this has to be one of the best books I've read in a long time. This is only the second author to have me laughing out loud while reading the book(first being Janet Evanovich). Honestly if you don't believe in ghost then the book will appear to be hooky to you. If you believe you will enjoy the book. It's an easy read moves along nicely and throws in some unexpected laughs...
Can't wait to read the next book in the series "Demons are a Ghoul's Best Friend"

First book in her new series. Introducing M.J. Holliday a psychic that specializes in ridding homes of Ghosts and Demons. This is much like her Psychic Eye Series including funny moments and a sexy man. The whole time I was reading this book I couldn't stop thinking about the Scooby-Do series. The only difference is that Scooby is a parrot named Doc.

M J Holliday's a medium w/ a message - her business is helping lost souls cross over to the other side. But what if the ghosts want to stay put?
This was a cute paranormal romance/mystery. What I liked was it was more about the mystery and story surrounding the characters than the steamy sex stuff. I like more story & less "romance" especially in the lighter, funny stories. M J Holliday is a ghostbuster who, aided by her gay assitant & her vocalizing parrot, helps a client rid his home of ghosts, while unexpectedly finding romance too. Not a page turner but it was entertaining.

I don't think that MJ Holliday was as developed as Abbey Cooper, but that could also be because this is her first appearance and we've "met" Abbey several times. I laughed iced tea out my nose several times when Dr. Eye Candy was butchering the English language. That alone made this book a four star!!

I really enjoyed this book. I read it in one afternoon on a rainy day, and got absolutely nothing done! The whole time i was guessing until the final reveal. This book has it all, mystery, humor, romance, ghosts, and suspence. An excellent book! 1st in series, order it now!

M.J. Holliday's a medium with a message-- her business is helping lost souls cross over to the other side. but what if the ghosts want to stay put?
M.J. Holliday has two rules. One, she and her partner, Gilley Gillespie, work alone; and two, she doesn't date clients. But when handsome Dr. Steven Sable needs her help, the specter-spotting sleuth is ready to break both rules.
It seems the hot doc's grandfather jumped from the roof of the family lodge in an apparent suicide. but Dr. Sable knows in his bones it was foul play, and strange things keep happening at the lodge. He'll hire M.J. and Gilley- but only if he can come along. Hey, the duo needs the money-and looking at eye candy all weekend doesn't sound too bad, either...
But once they reach the lodge, the three realize they're dealing with more ghosts than just Grandpa Sable's. and the spooks keep playing nasty tricks on their human visitors. To the untrained eye, it would appear that ghouls just want to h ave frun. But M.J. knows they're communicating their distress-and it's up to her to figure out why...

I was hesitant when I first ordered this book but it was suggested to me by a friend so I decided to check it out. That's why that girl is my friend !! She knows me well. I absolutely could not put this book down. I read a lot and if the first 2 chapters do not appeal to me I will most-likely never finish. This one had me in the first few pages. This book is witty and the main character, M.J.Holliday, is extremely likable as are her side-kicks. I laughed (out loud) many times while reading this one. Let me say I like mysteries and paranormal (vampires, mediums ghosts etc) but I don't really care for extreme romance and this book offered a little romance however it was more flirty than gooey over-blown romance. I'm in my 30's and the author seemed to target the 25-40 range quite well, the lingo and the thought process definitely catered to my age group. I would talk to my friends the way M.J. did. It was sassy and grown-up but still "cool". I would recommend this book to every female who likes paranormal and comedy. I can't wait to get the next book in this series !! Happy reading :)

This was the first book I've read by this author and I really liked it. Just the right amount of paranormal elements, suspense, mystery, romance, and humor. I particularly liked Doc, the talking parrot. His one liners were hysterical and so spot on.
M.J. Holliday is a psychic medium who got tired of the whole medium thing and started ghostbusting instead. Now she helps ghosts (kindly and vengeful) to cross over to the other side. When Dr. Steven Sable requests her assistance in finding out what really happened to his grandfather and if his newly inherited lodge is haunted, M.J. and Gilley (her gay friend and partner) jump right on that money train. But this is one ghostbusting experience that may be the death of her and Gilley...and the client. Turns out the lodge is very haunted by two ghosts not one. Now the biggest mystery is who is the second ghost and why is it trying to kill them.
This is a sweet romance that is super funny. Steven is a Argentinian native who grew up in Germany and vacationed in Boston so his English is screwy and his accent is devine. And we cannot forget M.J.'s parrot Doc. He is the funniest pet I've heard about in months. His one-liners are spot on and hysterical. A wonderful start to A Ghost Hunter Mystery series.

Another great series from Victoria Laurie. MJ is a ghostbuster and seems like everywhere she goes a ghost wants her to pass on information. He partner Gilley is afraid of ghosts so he mostly takes care of the electric items and some computer hacking. Doc her parrot adds a flair of fun and likes to repeat things that are said. I RECOMMEND this series, if you like Victoria Laure, this is for you.......

What a great book! It had everything including a mystery, romance, and ghosts. M.J and Gilley are funny and the way "Dr. Delicious" beat up the English language was hilarious at times. Even with the underlying humor, this is a mystery and it kept me turning "just one more page" to see who the bad guy really was. I highly recommend this book.

This was a cute, fun read. The author writes in a way that the book just flows and I read it really quickly.
I liked all of the characters--M.J., Dr. Sable, and Gilley. Gilley is the gay guy friend who is hilarious. M.J. seemed believeable.
And Dr. Sable, otherwise known as Dr. Delicious, just seems hot--and funny! I loved the way his language messed up all the English
slang words, if sometimes to much! They had me laughing a lot!
I enjoyed the plot too. I sort of figured out what happened, but not completely. As for M.J. and Dr. Sable, the author left us hanging
until the next book in the series, Demons Are A Ghoul's Best Friend. I would have liked a little more "paranormal". It's a good thing
I'm reading that next!

What a fun book! This series is shaping up to be a fantastic cozy mystery series, on par with Elaine Viets' "Dead End Job" books. I liked this book even better than the first book in Victoria Laurie's "Psychic Eye" series. It is very good! The sidekicks (gay BFF Gilley, and parrot Doc Holliday) are fantastic. I am going to start this review by stating that I prefer this authors Psychic Eye series. Having said that, dont let that sway you from checking out this series. I enjoyed meeting M.J. and her partner Gilley. I also liked that M.J. has a parrot she named Doc after her infamous ancestor, Doc Holliday. The bird is quite the character. He talks and sometimes says some very inappropriate things, such as singing Y.M.C.A. or some cute things like calling M.J.s client Dr. Delicious. Steven Sable is M.J.s love interest and client and has his plate full just trying to make himself understood. He didnt grow up in America, so his vocabulary is a little different. When he and M.J. share a drink one night, he refers to it as a nightgown instead of a night cap.
Though I found the story to be interesting, I felt like there were a lot of details that didnt seem to fit and made it a little bit hard to follow. First of all, Stevens grandfather has died under mysterious circumstances so he hired M.J. to look into it to determine if it was really suicide. During this time, Gilley has a nasty encounter with an angry ghost who pushes him down the stairs. Obviously, I am led to think that Stevens grandfather was pushed to his death by the same ghost. The story veers off into a sub-plot involving Stevens birthright, the father who has never acknowledged his existence, paternity tests and shady land deals. When I got to the end, I am left still wondering if Stevens father is really his father and what his intentions were throughout the story.
Im hoping some of these details get clarified in the next book as it appears that Steven will be a regular part of M.J.s life. Overall, though there are a lot of confusing details that left me with more questions than answers, I am curious enough about the series to find out where it will lead me to next.

This is a great start to the new Ghost Busters Series by Victoria Laurie. I'm already a huge fan of her Psychic Eye series, and this one looks just as promising. M.J. Holliday can commune with the dead, and uses her talents to help unwanted spirits pass over (think Ghost Whisperer for hire). This book was smart, sassy, and had a lot of humor (as well as a little romance). I can't wait for the next one to come out.

Cute read if you like murder mystery type books. It started off strong then got a smidge boring but then the last half was pretty good. I was expecting more ghoulishness but it was more about ghosts and the main character being a medium (guess I didnt read the back cover that well). Overall I liked it!

Great story line with a few twists to keep you guessing but not enough to lose interest. I love the characters but I was a little disappointed that Gilley's character was included more. Gilley is M.L.'s ghost hunter partner. I can't wait to read the next book in this series.
Wonderful book in a wonderful series! I laugh out loud with Victoria Laurie's books, just as I did with Janet Evanovich's books. Victoria also brings awareness of intuitive abilities in a non-threatening manner.
MJ is a physic medium who "ghost-busts" (moves people on to the next stage) homes. Her best friend Gilly is her business partner-he also does the books and is an excellent hacker. MJ also has a parrot, Doc, who has a habit of saying something funny, but inappropriate depending on the situation.
She and Gilly are hired by Dr Sable (Jr). His grandfather committed suicide. But did he really?
This was entertaining. I enjoyed the dynamics between MJ, Gilly, Doc, and Steven. I thought the mystery was a good one; and there was more than 1 thing going on.
An interesting end with possible romance between MJ and Steven & Steven possibly being a partner.

M.J. (Mary Jane) Holliday can communicate with spirits, and she and her best friend, Gilley Gillespie, have built their business around that unique talent. They are ghostbusters. When someone suspects they have a ghost creating problems in their home or business, the two partners work together to move the lost spirit on to the other side. Their latest client, hunky Dr. Steven Sable (the Second), wants them to contact the spirit of his recently deceased grandfather to determine the truth behind his death. The police have called it a suicide but Dr. Delicious just isn't buying it. So he, M.J., Gilley, and Doc, M.J's talkative African Grey parrot head upstate to search for answers.
This was a fun, funny, exciting, and easy-to-read story with constant action and the start of a possible romance. The mystery around the grandfather's death is not a quick solve, and it takes the whole book to reach the final reveal. Along the way, several other ghostly questions and visitors appear to M.J. who opens her senses and her heart to help them find peace as well. The main characters are easy to like and, hopefully, will all return in subsequent books in the series. I highly recommend this book to cozy mystery readers that enjoy some paranormal activity as well.
This being the first book of the series it wasn't as good as I was hoping it could have been. There was to much sex and not enough ghost hunting. And the lack of knowledge of the English language was boring after awhile. If you can get past all of that, the ghost hunting is interesting and the story isn't to bad. Hopefully the next book in the series will be better.
Lots of fun to read, really enjoyed this book

MJ and her partner Gilley Gillespie set out to get rid of hot and handsome Doc Sable's family ski lodge of its resident ghost, but soon the spooks are playing nasty tricks on their human visitors. Is it just a case of ghouls just want to have fun???
