This is such a gripping and compelling read! I stayed up into the wee hours completely absorbed and unable to put it down. It is the story of Izzy in 1995 and the story of Clara beginning in 1928. Clara's story is tragic and heartbreaking while Izzy's story has it's own tragedies. Still, there is strength and hope in these characters and their stories merge in a beautiful way before the book is done.

I LOVED the Orphan Collector, so I couldn't wait to read another by this author. I got sucked into the book quickly, even with it's depressing and hard to read plot.
Each chapter ended with a little cliff hanger, which kept me up late reading it... BUT:
The use of: "She bit her lip.... she chewed the inside of her mouth... her stomach was churning... she was digging her nails into (insert object or body part here)... the vomiting, the sour stomach, the watery and rubbery legs so she could barely stand..." got old very quickly. I think if this was left out, the book would be half the length.
Try it. You may like it.
