This was one of the most enjoyable Burrowes books I've read recently. I like her books, but because they are very long and wordy, and often are so similar in tone and characters, I find I have to take a break between books. So I was ready and in the mood when I finally picked this one up. It was a rather realistic treatment of a marriage of convenience. The hero and heroine are not instantly "magic" in bed, it takes a while for them to develop compatibility and learn what the other likes.
I liked that each of them had their own passionate interests; in Joan's case it was clothing and dress designing, and for Dante, it's his businesses, which are fabric mills. Because the hero is so preoccupied with business, there's quite a bit of talk about money and the labor situation in the mills, etc.
I wish the heroine had not continued to keep secrets from her husband when blackmail was attempted, because as all romance readers know, that causes "The Big Misunderstanding". In fact a lot of trouble could have been avoided if they were more open with each other. On the plus side, there are the hero's two adorable kids! And appearances of all the characters from previous MacGregor books, if you've been following this series. So, 3.5 stars.
