If you like to get your medical info from Cosmopolitan magazine, then this is the book for you. There were too many goofy acronyms and too much "girl talk" for me. It did have some great basic information. But as someone who is in her late 20s and works in the medical field--- I was left wanting more serious information and some science to back it up.

"What to Expect Before You're Expecting" had some insightful information about planning to become pregnant, including chapters about how to predict ovulation and overcoming infertility. I did discover that a lot of the information in this book was common sense. The chapter about the signs of pregnancy was laced with "you could be pregnant, but it could also be PMS or something else is wrong". The whole chapter did nothing more to teach me than a website listing the signs of pregnancy would. There is a little bit of good stuff in the book like the chart that Murkoff included in the back of the book so people who want to chart their ovulation could. I think this is a decent book for people who want to take the full advantage of it. Myself, I chose to skip 3 chapters of the book and pick and choose the parts that actually applied to me. Basically, what I discovered from reading this was, planning to get pregnant just involves common sense and luck.

I was impressed with this book, it was very real. It wasn't preachy and pretty funny in some parts. Although I didn't use the journal and tracking pages in the back (especially if I wanted to post it on PBS), I'm sure someone would find those exciting. I knew a lot of the stuff already, but I also learned so much more.

im planning on getting pregnant soon(!!) and have already picked up what to expect when you are expecting. i love that they came out with this, for those of us who want to be in tip top baby making shape. a lot of the book is basic baby making info i already knew, but i also learned some interesting facts. it has a great place to do all of your charting and im using it every day to keep track of my food. a definite must for people who will be trying to conceive in the near future!!

I found this book to affirm the information I was reading using the internet, which was good. The book is also very organized in its layout.

Here style of writing is really frustrating, though. She almost appears sarcastic and her references to sex and your period as "Aunt Flow" and the "Baby Dance" get old fast. I think she is unaware of her audience's feelings toward the topic-- obviously you take the topic seriously if you are investing in reading about pregnancy before you are considering becoming pregnant.

Overall, informative.
