When is life really over? Is the end really just the start? Richard Matheson takes you threw a trip that will make you wonder, you will journey with Chris and his love for Annie.

The book is as amazing as the movie - I would recommend seeing the movie first (which I rarely do!)because the movie portrays Matheson's visions superbly! Let your imagination and heart wander as you read this amazing book!

Good book. It was fun of detail that you just can't get in the movie. It is the type of book that makes you think a little bit about what else is out there. It was just as good as the movie and has the same feel.

What Dreams May Come, the hit movie starring Robin Williams, touched numerous readers with its convincing portrait of life after death. The book is so different and much more uplifting as a husband risks his soul to save his wife from despair. A very "wow" read.
There are very few books that I have read over and over. This is one of them!

What Dreams May Come is a love story between average people who have lived a normal life together, but with a bond that transcends even death. It's also a different take on the afterlife, combining religious, scientific, and new age ideas in a way that demonstrates that birth, life, death, purgatory, heaven, and hell are what we make of them. (It's also little to nothing like the movie)
Heaven and hell as a state of mind? Totally works for me. While I thought the narrative part of the story stumbled a bit at the end, Matheson's principles contributed greatly to my ideals of what's next. Summerland.
I struggled through reading this book. It's a short read but the main character is, to me very selfish and whiny. I felt like was reading the book equivalent of a restless child asking "Are we there yet?" I'm glad others found comfort in the story of Chris and Ann and of Summerland, but I was not impressed.
It has been a very long time since I have seen the movie, but I think I can honestly say that I liked the movie better than the book. This is a love story of soul mates.

It does have very good imagery and the premise itself is wonderful. For many people the story would be uplifting and offer some excellent viewpoints of what happens when we die.

I read this book when it wsa first published and LOVED it. I was so excited when the movie came out - what a disappointment. They changed way too much. I recommend you read the book even if (or especially if!) you didn't like the film. A wonderful love story!
This book seems like its about afterlife but its really a love story about a man willing to leave heaven and go to hell where his wife is to save her. However, most of the book is spent describing the lead character's death experience and what heaven, called Summerland, was like.
