This was a really cool book...VERY differently written. On the cover it says "prose that reads like poetry" and yes, I agree. Her writing is fluid and captivating. It gets tricky sometimes, because the authoress is Irish and the wording can be unfamiliar...But sometimes I understood just by context. I really like this book and would keep it if I didn't want new books to read!

Enright uses brutal prose to trace the lives of twins separated by a bereaved father after their mother's death. The book is gripping and compelling, but not simply becasue of dramatic plot twists. Instead, it is the characterization and flashbacks that make the pages turn. Enright takes us through the lives of two very different families, and many psychologically complex individuals using memory and vivid description. The end result is a portrait of how we love, sacrifice, and put up with our family, even when we don't know why.
