Fifth in the series and as mad-cap and likeable as the first four. This one had more crazy antics than any of the others, and if it wasn't for Donna Andrews writing style they would of seemed over-the-top. But she tempers the whackiness with down to earth sensibility, dry humor and a decent plot. This series is one of my all time favorites.

the description of the murder and the hotel is great. not quite as good as some of her other ones but worth me reading. i enjoyed it. the language is easy to understand and quite simple. nothing really dramatic. of course there is a murder. but how it was committed is interessting. I'd recommend it. if you want a book without all the swearing, sex, and blood in it then these books are worth reading. Reminds me of the Cat who.... by another author.

The fifth title in the Meg Langslow series (while perhaps not as good as the fourth installment) is an enchanting romp. As always, Meg's wit and humor see her through the day, while her family and friends entertain and delight. I'd happily recommend these books to any "cozy" reader.

A funny (as in ha ha) mystery. Not the usual run of the mill for this genre.

This is a humerous, cozy mystery - the fourth in Donna Andrews' bird titles. The action takes place at a fan convention for a TV series. Meg's boyfriend is a member of the cast, and Meg is selling her wrought iron art. All is going well until the monkeys and parrots take over the lobby, costumed fans are scaling the balconies and the "Queen B" turns up brutally murdered.

This was another great book by Donna Andrews, though perhaps not quite my favorite in the series.

Meg attends a fan convention "con" with her boyfriend Michael, part time actor and college Drama professor, for the cult TV show he's on. While at the hotel, someone kills Tamalaine Wynncliffe-Jones, the show's leading lady and executive producer, or the QB as the rest of the cast likes to call her (short for Queen Bi7c4, or as she likes to think Queen Bee). Of course, everyone is a suspect, and since Meg was the one to find the body, she uses her amateur sleuthing skills to dig up information and try to piece together the puzzle of who dunnit, since she feels the cops are continually looking in the wrong direction.

As usual, there's a chuckle per chapter at least as Andrews seamlessly blends humor in with her mysteries, and you're left guessing on the killer's identity right up until the end. Though each book in this series can stand alone, reading the previous books gives you greater insight into each character. Highly recommended!

Meg Langslow is a fine addition to the cozy mystery field. She is an intelligent heroine and is very believable. A very enjoyable read.

I'm a sucker for a clever or corny title.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The mystery was just convoluted enough that I didn't figure it out in the beginning - but if I did, who cares? This isn't meant to be high-brow or even all that realistic, but it is certainly entertaining.

Since this is the first of this author's works that I've read, I can't make a comparison to her other books, nor can I critique the growth (or non-growth) of the main character.

Not a laugh-out-loud read overall, there were a couple of spots that garnered an audible chuckle - both involving monkeys.

I love this series, but this is the least enjoyable of the bunch, so far. I have a little problem with the fan convention for what appears to be a silly TV show where Meg's enamorata, Michael, is an actor. Usually, the antics and foolishness that romp through these books is believable, if just barely. Not this time; not to me. Nevertheless, I definitely would read the book, but only after reading the first four in the series. We all NEED to know what happens in Meg's life....

Again, another great story by Andrews. I love Meg's father, he is a very special character in the stories. Thanks, Donna for great stories. This one centered on TV fan adoration is very good.

I do not think that this addition to the series is up to par with the prior ones.....It still is LOL funny and Meg is once again involved in the murder of a nasty individual.....but...still worth a read...

I know I'm reading this series backwards, but Andrews has definitely improved since the first award-winning volume of the series. This time Meg is accompanying her actor boyfriend to a convention for his hit TV series, and finds the Queen B*** murdered. Meg is determined to investigate on her own as Michael is a suspect along with every member of the cast who all had reason to hate her. Full of amusing visuals and tongue-in-cheek parodies of every die-hard Star Trek convention, the addition of parrots and monkeys running loose all over the hotel makes for an entertainingly hilarious read as well as a solid mystery that Andrews's fans have come to expect.

Pleasant enough book but didn't really care enough about the characters to want to read another. Didn't figure out who dunnit but wasn't really trying. Story takes place at a fan con for a schlocky TV show in which the heroine's boyfriend (who is also a college professor) has a leading role. Go figure!

Number six in the Meg Lanslow series, Meg and her boyfriend attend a sci-fi convention and Michael is targeted as a murder suspect.

I liked it - an easy read, colorful characters and setting. I have to admit I guessed who the killer was way before I should have, but that did not take away from the interesting drama at the end. I may read more in this Meg Langslow series.

Meg and her boyfriend are attending a fan conference for the TV show her boyfriend stars in. When a much-disliked cast member is murdered, Meg and her family go hunting for clues. The parrot reference in the title is hilarious - in an effort to make the hotel fit the theme of the show, monkeys and parrots are brought in for flavor. When the monkeys let the parrots out - well, they add a lot of comic flavor to this mystery. Donna Andrews has a knack for combining humor and a taste of romance into her mysteries.

Donna Andrews is queen of the funny mystery. Meg attends a TV science fiction con with her professor/actor boyfriend. Many books in this series have been nominated/won for Agatha and Lefty awards.

Meg knew the fan convention for her actor-boyfriend's hit TV series would be weird, but she went along to sell her hand-crafted weapons. She was dealing with the costumed fans, the batch of escaped parrots and monkeys running through the hotel, and all the egos. But after Meg confronts the egomanical star, the "Queen B" turns up dead. Now Michael is the prime suspect. I think Andrews gets better with each novel in this series. When I read the next book (Crouching Buzzard) I could hardly read from laughing.

Donna Andrews is always good for a laugh and laughter is good for you...it tightens the stomach muscles! She combines misadventure and weird with a main character who is mostly normal. The result is wonderful.

Meg isn't thrilled to be spending the weekend at the convention for Porfiria, the TV show that boyfriend Michael stars in. This year's festivities have been enhanced by the addition of monkeys and parrots, which have escaped from their cages and are wandering the hotel at random. Meg is hoping to make some money off her swords in the dealer room to keep the weekend from being a complete loss.
All that's before the star of the show is murdered. Nicknamed the QB (which doesn't stand for Queen Bee), there isn't a person who works on the show who didn't have some beef with her. Despite protests that she's not going to get involved, Meg begins collecting clues. But can she follow them back to the real killer before the convention ends?
If you are at all familiar with the books in the Meg Langslow series, you know to expect plenty of antics along with your mystery. This book is no exception. Donna Andrews pokes gentle fun at fandom with some of the over the top antics. I grinned and laughed my way through the entire book. At the same time, there's a great mystery. While it takes a while to get going, it is a cleverly plotted story with several nice twists before the ending.
Donna Andrews continues to set the bar high for herself. How she manages to juggle everything she puts in these stories is beyond me. But they are a fun ride none-the-less. If you love humorous mysteries, be sure to check this series out. (Credit Mark Baker)

I enjoy this series, especially when I need something that's fun to read. The characters are quirky, the situations they get themselves into are funny, and there is always a murder to be solved. Reminds me of the Stephanie Plum series and if you liked that, you'll like this.

Meg Langslow knew the fan convention for her actor-boyfriend's hit television seriesw was going to be the ultimate in weird. But soon after Meg goes head-to-head with egomaniacal sereies star Tamerlaine Wynncliffe-Jones, the "Queen B" turns up brutally murdered. Now, with Michael in the running as prime suspect. Meg will go up against an all-star cast of not-even-innocent parties, hidden identities, and buried motives. And she'll cross swords with a deviously obsessed murderer determined to write her out of this picture for good.
