I wanted to like this book as I love a nice small town Christian fiction series. This was the chosen book for our church book club, and midway through reading it was discarded. There are many questionable viewpoints expressed by the author through her characters, but the most disheartening to me was the affirmation that young girls should not engage in sexual activity until they are emotionally ready, not until they are married. I can pick up any work of fiction and find approval for sexual immorality and sexual tension, but I read Christian fiction because I don't want to be constantly bombarded with these things. The quaint title and the inviting artwork on the cover aren't a good match for this book's contents.

This was a really sweet book about Pastor Adam Jordan's arrival in Butternut Creek, Texas as a new minister. His professional and social life are both overseen by one of the church "Widows," Miss Birdie a/k/a The Pillar. I enjoyed this book, but was disappointed that it wasn't funnier. Although I did have a couple of laughs, I was hoping for something a little funnier. Overall, this was a good book and I am looking forward to reading the next one.
