Very Very Excellent book!! It's something everyone should read if you are trying to lose weight! You don't need to deprive yourself of your favorite foods or any food for that matter. It's about learning to listen to what your body wants!

If you are tired of doing diet after diet and not getting anywhere, then you will totally enjoy reading this book! You will feel liberated! The concepts in this book are super practical and amazingly easy! You'll find yourself saying, "Why didn't I think of that before?" ANYONE can do this "diet." You can eat whatever you want as long as you follow the principles laid forth in the book!

This book was an eye-openeing approach to eating with our Creator's ideals in mind. A prayerful approach to managing the issues ultimately resulting in over-weight. Gives you a well-deserved "time-out" from the over-scientific approach to weight control and puts it back in the hands of Him who designed us.

Although some of the specific guidelines are not what I would personally and professionally (as an RN) recommend, it is an uplifting ideological alternative to the "diet" mentality.

Love this book. It's a good reminder that we must take responsibility for our habits and turn our hearts toward God rather than ice cream.

"We have been trying to feed our hurting, longing hearts with physical food," writes Gwen Shamblin, registered dietician and founder of the Weigh Down program, which emphasizes "God's power--not 'will power.'" This book offers instruction on how to eat only when physically hungry, how to "nourish the soul with a relationship with God," and how not to confuse different hunger urges. The diet plan teaches you not to overeat by letting you eat exactly what you want, but much less of it.
The key is to understand hunger, recognize fullness, and sense what your body is really calling for. You learn to "rate" food by its appeal, and eat your favorite foods first, stopping when you're getting full (not waiting until you're stuffed). This is not a nutritional guide; in fact, Shamblin's own sample menu is high in fat, cholesterol, sugar, and salt. The Weigh Down Diet is, however, a guide to using your religious beliefs to help you stop overeating and see food in a new light. This book inspires you with scriptural passages, discussions of "God's rules" about eating, and assurances that God's love will help you win your battle with weight.

Though I'm not a devoutly religious person, myself, I still found this perspective on the way we eat and treat out bodies to be extremely enlighting for me. The absolute simplicity of the concept of eating only when hungry and stopping when moderately full really does take a faith in something other than your own obsession with food. And I should know, I've been obsessed with food my whole life. Religious or no, this is a must read.
