This is a great series of English village mysteries. The best thing about them is the writer's ability to develop real, interesting, well-rounded, non-stereotypical characters. But the modern English village setting and the mystery itself are great too. I am reading them in order, but I don't think that is absolutely required.

An English village mystery starring Lois Meade, a strong wife and mom who operates her own housecleaning service. When she takes a chance and hires Enid, an older woman from a reclusive family, there are complications...
Helpful Score: 1
Lois hires two new cleaners, one a man and the other a woman from a troubled family. The disappearance of the woman's brother, her twin, begins a series of events that involves the whole town, and sets Lois on a new investigation.
Third in the series. A bit on the slow pickup, but an interesting story.
Great mystery. The series keeps getting better. I hate the idea that there is only 7 days in a week. I don't want this to end.
Third book in this great series! Lois Meade is up to her "amateur sleuthing" again, collaborating with Inspector Cowgill with very unintended consequences. This book, IMHO is the best I have read so far. Alot of plot twists, good character development, and a surprise ending make it a great cozy read.
Love this series! Wish there were more.

First Line: "Hello?"
The villagers of Long Farnden don't quite know what to think of the Abrahams of Carthanger Mill. Wits have likened the Mill to a setting straight from the Hammer horror films, and rumors have always surrounded the Abrahams. But... when Enid Abraham applies for work at New Brooms, Lois Meade decides to give her a try.
While Lois is making sure her two new employees meet her exacting standards, Lois's husband begins receiving anonymous letters insinuating that his wife is having an affair with a local policeman. People begin disappearing and strange things begin to happen, and Lois wonders if Carthanger Mill holds the key to a terrible secret.
I enjoy this series. Lois is a wild child who grew up, settled down, and now has children who are giving her grief. The Meades are a loving family, and Lois extends that caring behavior to the people who work for her.
It's fun to see this series mature. When I read the first book, I saw it painting itself into a corner by having Lois cleaning the houses in just one village. The second book in the series had her broadening her horizons, but it presented another problem: constantly meeting the policeman in the woods to pass along the information she'd gleaned. This third book in the series addresses that. (You simply cannot get away with something like that when you live in a village!) I'm definitely looking forward to book four. Lois is becoming one of my favorite characters.

Best book of the series so far. A lot of intrigue and guessing what exactly was going on. Clues were good but still didn't know for sure if what I thought was right. recommend this series.
