LOVE this book! The characters are so rich and full. The historical era was brought to life convinciingly. A truely amazing coming-of-age novel that should not be skipped merely because one is not a YA anymore. I am in my 40's and was entertained throughout this book. Makes me want to tackle some more Shakespeare, too! P.S. Bring tissues...

Why are some YA fiction books so much better than some adult New York Times best seller fiction? I found this to be a page turner and often laughed out loud. Perhaps it was because I also grew up in the 60s, the time period of this novel. And some of the events in the novel were associated with the events of the 60s: Viet Nam, the killing of some important national personages and even the atomic bomb drills.

What a great story, and I've already requested another of the author's books which deals with a not-so-well-liked character introduced in this book.
