Yupe, this one was a good one. This is really a must read series for any Sabrina Jeffries fan. All the books in the series have held their own while encompassing the other characters from the previous books. Like how she is revealing bits and pieces of the puzzle through each book.

I really enjoy the entire Hellions of Halstead Hall series; Ms. Jeffries really develops characters that the reader can thoroughly get into and enjoy. This story, of Gabe, the Angel of Death, was quite good. I look forward to the conclusion of the series.

Seven years ago, Gabriel Sharpe's best friend, Roger Waverly, died in a racing accident. Now Roger's sister, Virginia, is blaming Gabe for his death and wants revenge. Gabe is a daredevil, taking chance after chance with his life because of his guilt over Roger's death. Gabe knows he must marry within the year in order to get his inheritance, so why not marry Virginia who has no prospects. When Virginia challenges Gabe to a race, Gabe counters with a courtship offer.

This is another interesting romance in Jeffries' Hellions of Halstead Hall series. Gabe is very easy to like and his pursuit of Virgnia is fun. He feels responsible for Virginia since her brother is gone. Virginia wants to make Gabe pay for his part in Roger's death. But as she gets to know Gabe, she realizes how he has beat himself up over the past.

I really like how Sabrina Jeffries introduces new characters into the series. I really liked Virginia's cousin, Pierce Waverly, and I'm hoping he will eventually get his own book. My only problem with the book (and the whole series) is the overall story arc concerning the deaths of mom and dad Sharpe, is a little weak. It is moving very slow for me, but at least I know they will wind up the mystery in the next (and last) book in the series. My rating: 4.5 Stars.

England, 1820s. The fourth in the Halstead Hall series. (All of which are very good.)

Grandma - who raised all 5 children after their parents died - has issued an ultimatium that every child must wed or they will all be disinherited.

Gabe, the last male of the group has demons to conquer before this happens. As always, the heroine's beauty, courage, and strength gives him the reason to fight.

I do love heroines that are determined to dislike the hero from the start. I love heros that know what they want from the beginning. I love books in which the story lines put them together for the majority of the book. The dialogue is cute and the characters are fun. There are appearances from characters of former books as well.

This book can definately stand on its own. I would suggest you read the entire series, but if you grabbed this one first and can't wait for number one, go ahead. You'lll catch up later ;)

Gabriel's story.
Gabe is the daredevil of the Sharpe children. He was 7 when he parents died. As an adult (he would have been 19/20) he raced his best friend, Roger. Roger was in an accident that killed him. Fast forward 7 years. Gabe has carried his guilt with him. Roger's sister, Virginia, challenges Gabe to a race. Realizing she will be possibly homeless when her grandfather died and her cousin inherits, he proposes marriage. He needs to marry to inherit and she will need someplace to live. Only problem? Virginia and her grandfather (Poppy) blame him for Roger's death.
I liked how close Virginia was to her grandfather, "Poppy." Her cousin, Pierce, is also supportive- in his own way. He may have a story later. The Sharpe family is fun to read about. Their love and support of each other shines through. I liked Gabe and Virginia getting to know each other. Both are a bit unconventional and compliment each other beautifully. Hetty and Issac (Poppy) might have their own love story too.
Celia is next!

There's really nothing wrong with the 4th installment in this series, but there's really nothing exceptional about it either. It's a standard, run-of-the-mill historical romance that is pushing the limits of an over long series. I think I'm just getting bored with it all; it seems only one or two clues in solving the mysterious death of the parents are revealed in each book, which is taking forever to solve. And, really, must every child get their own story? It's one thing if only three siblings are involved, but any more than that drags the series out making the stories sound the same. Just get on with it already. I want something fresh. 3 stars.
