This is a suspensful book. I didn't figure out all of the details until the very end and that is rare.

Julia Talbot is an exemplary second-grade teacher in a small town in upstate New York. Sensitive to emotionally abused children, she gets involved with one such student, Brian Stratford, the mayor\'s son. Brian is not his usual exuberant self, and Julia is wondering if his father\'s campaign for state senator is affecting him. She attempts to bring her concerns to his parents, but Brian\'s Uncle Connor runs interference. The family is having serious problems, and Connor sets out to distract Julia from her mission, but she becomes more than a distraction for him. His desire for Julia could cost his brother the election if secrets come out and Julia refuses to stay away from Brian. When Brian disappears, Julia realizes that more is going on than she\'s being told, and her tenuous relationship with Connor is tested. Initially, Julia seems too good to be true, but she develops along with the story, making for another of Kane\'s absorbing tales of romantic suspense.

Something is wrong with teacher Julia Talbot's favorite second-grader, the mayor's son Brian. Seeing the outgoing little boy become increasingly anxious and withdrawn, she suspects problems at home, inside the mansion of a high-profile political family. But even Julia doesn'tknow the real truth. Venture capitalist Conner Stratford, the boy's powerful uncle, does.

Intrigued by Julia, Conner plans a campaign of seduction designed to keep her from snooping-and to get her into his bed. Yet Julia has already learned too much. As danger bears down on her like a runaway freight train, Brian vanishes, and a desperate hunt to find him draws Julia deeper into a family's secrets and an irrestible passion-and closer to a place where a child's future, and her own fate, hang in the balance.

Julia Talbot, 2nd grade teacher, fears for Brian a special student. Brian's uncle Conner fears for him as well. The two come together as lovers and to save this child from certain danger. Good mystery, if a bit predictable. Romantic storyline satisfies as well.
