If you like ghost, excentric grandmothers, scary swamp things and sisterly devotion, you'll like this book. The water witch, Dunny, takes her talents to the Louisiana Bayous to help her sister locate two of her 2nd grade students, Sarah and Nicky, who have turned up missing. Dunny has a 6th finger on her left hand that helps her locate lost things when she cosentrates on the object or person. Their search takes them into the swamps at night.....truly a scary read that will keep you turning pages.

The coming of Halloween made me choose this book; the title interested me. I do not usually read from this genre. I did enjoy this story, because LeBlanc created a main character who did not take herself too seriously, even though she has special powers. I also enjoyed the relationships between the characters. I usually find this type of relationship in cozy mysteries, my favorites. The one negative I found in the book is the same facet of the horror genre that I have never enjoyed-the gore. There was more gore than I ever want to read; needless to say I just skipped over those parts. All in all a good read.

Had this book on my bookshelf for months. Never read the author and the title didn't appeal to me. Picked it up as a quick read as it had only 290 pages. Well what a surprise, Great story with a lot of the flavor of Louisiana and it's voodoo. Loved it! Got Deborah Leblanc
on my favorites to read list now. Ordered some more of her books too. A pleasant surprise! Read this one!

Interesting murder mystery combining divination, the power of prayer, and Native American spirituality in the abduction and planned sacrificial murders of 2 young children. Multiple murders occur as we watch the countdown to the children's sacrifice in the frightening swamps filled with snakes and gators.
Their teacher calls on her sister from out of state to come and help locate the children with her special skill, but they must keep her ability secret to protect her privacy.
A granny who lives with the sister 'cause she is married to her grandson, lends the story some much needed levity--- she is quite a character!
Unfortunately, the violent string of behavior by the murderer could give the reader a false understanding of Native American spirituality and this brought the story down in my star rating.
