At first, I wasn't sure if I would really enjoy this book. It opens with tensions between Kathleen and her daughter Joelle. As Kathleen begins to tell her daughter about her childhood, they then begin to discover the truth about Kathleen's mother's and grandmother's lives. It is as if each generation has different thread that weave together to make a tapestry by the end of the book. It was a little hard to get into at first, but by the end I really enjoyed the story.

This is an excellent Christian fiction. Very well written. It is an adult read, or for older teens. Nothing too graphic but the harsh realities of life. The effects of sin passed from one generation to the next are portrayed and yet the healing of The Lord is clear too.

Wonderful story!! A healing relationship between mother and daughter, on so many levels. The mom understands her mom better after she learns the history of the ladies in her past. I'm not fond of touchy feely books, but this was wonderful, the plot, the characters, the history... everything, I recommend!

I love how Austin pulled her characters together. Her thread through the years doesnt miss a beat. A wonderful example of how the choices of one generation impact subsequent generations. The saying Let it begin with me comes to mind as these three generations of women share a common thread. I truly enjoyed her style, her story and how redemption and forgiveness overcome the incredible obstacles faced by this family. Highly recommended.

This is an excellent book showing how sin can invade & ruin a family for generations unless it is brought out into the open & repented of or dealt with. The main character is Kathleen who has a daughter she cannot connect with on an emotional level. When the daughter gets into some trouble, the counselor suggests that Kathleen share with her daughter some of the stories of her own childhood. Very reluctantly, Kathleen does this as she & her daughter take a road trip back to where Kathleen grew up. As Kathleen's past, then her mother's past & then her grandmother's past come to light, Kathleen finally realizes why she has cut herself off emotionally from her family & begins to reach out to her daughter. In response, her daughter has a new respect for her mother.

This is a good book, a bit of a page turner; It is rather long but I did get drawn in and wanted to keep reading. It is about multi generations of women. I enjoyed the book.

This book was so good that I have been feeling out of sorts since finishing it. I miss it. It is a Christian Fiction that wasn't a flimsy romance story. It wasn't even just ONE story. It started with one story and then gradually unfolded into several stories that intertwined and slowly revealed a total picture of one family. No one knew all of the story but when they got together the pieces all fit.

The story starts out with a mother who is having a very bad day. She argued with her boss and walked out and now thinks she may be fired for it. She was sitting in her car when she got the call that her teen daughter had been caught shoplifting at the mall. Her husband decided to send her daughter to a counselor to see if they can help. The counselor discovers that the daughter is acting out because she wants a closer relationship with her mother. She said her mother never talks to her and she knows nothing of her mothers family. She wishes she knew her grandparents and aunts and uncles but her mom wont speak of them. One day in therapy the counselor wants her mother to join in on the session and the daughter pulls out a birthday invitation that had been crumpled up and tossed in the trash. It was a party her aunt Annie was throwing for her grandfather. She asked her mother why she doesn't know her aunt or her grandfather and why she wont go. Finally, in an effort to repair her relationship with her daughter she decides to go. She and her daughter go on a road trip and as they drive she tells her story, the story of her childhood.

That is just the beginning though and as they arrive and meet more people they hear more stories and slowly begin to understand why people behaved the way they did.
