This is my favorite Kristan Higgins book yet! Such a cute story, and the characters are so likable. I REALLY enjoyed this, and did not want to put it down. As with her other books, it was quite humorous at times, and just an easy-to-follow story that was predictable, yet so good anyway! I highly recommend this author, and especially this book!

The problem with reading my first two Kristan Higgins novels back to back is that, the second time around, the formula becomes glaringly, embarrassingly obvious. In one breath, here are the characteristics that, after reading just two of her books, I suspect hold throughout all her novels: a theoretically smart female MC (often a middle child with an unusual interest or hobby) with a bad history in men and who turns into idiots around men, a quirky family, a cantankerous grandparent, an over-hyper and disobedient canine pet who gets talked to in frighteningly embarrassing babytalk, eCommitment and horrible blind online dates, a gay best friend I guess Ill stop here for now (although Ill just say: seriously, a requisite gay best friend? Isnt that so 1990s?).
Furthermore, the plot progresses at pretty much the same ratio: for example, the requisite lovers misunderstanding occurs at around 85% of the way through the novel. GAH. I dont know whether I should laugh at the unapologetic adherence to a formula, or cry a little.
Now, I understand that this is romance and that bestselling romance often follows a formula that everyone knows yet still loves. And yep, thats pretty much the case here. This is classic Higgins (if one who has only read two of her books is allowed to reach such a conclusion after having just dissected her formula in a disconcertingly easy way). Callie is likable (and has the requisite quirky hobby!), and her awkwardness/stupidity around men is still infuriating yet relatable. Zany humor abounds in conversations. The dog is still annoying.
But Ian. Oh, Ian. He totally makes this book. Think a blond, Slavic version of Mr. Darcy, with a reticence slightly reminiscent of Aspergers but with puppy-like loyalty that is hard to earn but oh so worth it. Shy guys! Stories these days are overflowing with guys who know theyre good-looking and know how to say just the right thing to get what they want. Ian, however, has NO CLUE what hes doing most of the time, as far as relationships go, which makes his rare right actions all the more genuine and truly endearing. We need more Ians in stories, thats for sure.
Its probably going to be hard for me to pick a favorite Higgins romance, because they all follow pretty much the same formula, and yet are all so much fun to read. Hopefully this review will push you in the right direction and encourage you to pick up a book by Kristin Higgins! And if you already have, well, lets just giggle and gaggle and gossip together over which Higgins man wed like to have for ourselves

Calliope "Callie" Grey has been in love with Mark since she was a young girl. He even gave her her first kiss in a dark closet when they were young. She's always loved him, but he was her friend. Years later, Mark hires Callie at his advertising agency. When they have to go to a conference, Callie goes with Mark, and the two start a whirlwind affair. Callie is sure Mark is going to be her happy ever after, so she is confused when Mark tells her it isn't the right time in his life for her. She can wait, but then Mark tells her he is serious about Muriel, the daughter of their biggest client -- someone he has been seeing for months.
Callie is heartbroken, but she figures the quickest way to get Mark back is to make him jealous, to see another man. There's a new vet in town, Ian McFarland. He's easy on the eyes, but his attitude leaves a different impression. Ian is very formal and stodgy, but so good with the animals, including Callie's dog, Bowie. But Callie soon learns Ian is a good man, and with him, she could get her happily ever after if she can put Mark in her past.

Unfortunately, I couldn't find that connection with the main character, Callie. I wanted to like her, but I thought she needed more backbone. The romance between her and Ian though was sweet. Romance fans will devour this one!

absolutely loved this book. great characters, emotionally touching moments and a quirky hero and heroine. The rocking chair was almost a character unto itself! highly recommended.

I ordered this book because it had a picture of an Irish Setter on the front since I lost my Hayley recently. I had never read anything by this author before but found it was very good. It was humorous and had a lot of heart. I will most definitely read more by this author. It kept me interested from beginning to end and an easy read.
I absolutely loved this book. This story had parts where I found myself laughing out loud and then parts where I was in tears. From the family business of a funeral home, to being in love with the first boy who kissed you to finding prince charming.....this book is well worth the read.
Higgins never disappoints. Characters are well developed and wit and emotion are well balanced.
I loved this book so much. Our local head libraian will be adding this to our shelves.
This is the 3rd book by Kristan Higgins that I've read and I can't wait to read them all (have them all waiting on my Nook)! She is my new favorite author. All I Ever Wanted is my favorite by Ms. Higgins so far. My attention never wandered while reading this book and I laughed so much, it truly was an escape to be in Callie's world. She's totally lovable! Almost as much as her grandfather, Noah, who was my favorite character. He's rough around the edges, which makes him ever more endearing because you (and Callie!) see right through his act. Personally, I love the language and voice in this book. It just made it more real. From Noah to Callie's sister, Hester (who has her own share of issues), these folks became people who I cared about. Callie's parents are hysterical and I LOVED the Tour of Whores. Especially the 85-year old ex-fling of Callie's dad who fell asleep at their dinner. Louis, the undertakeer who works for Callie's mom, was a great addition to the story. I could FEEL his creepiness! :o) I thought it was great that he and Hester, the man-hater, ended up finding each other. I cheered for Callie at the end with her boss/dream man, Mark, and how she handled that. I also love how Ms. Higgins incorporates dogs into her stories. So far, with the 3 I've read, there's also a seriously good cry in each book and that makes her novels well-rounded. I definately recommend this book and all of Kristan Higgins' work! She's FABULOUS!
A quick little light read. I loved it. It was definitely on the cute side - made you go AWWWW. But for something light and enjoyable - it hit the spot! This was my first Kristan Higgins book and I will definitely make time for more of her reads when I am in the mood for something cute.

Her family is quirky and interesting which provided for some entertainment. This book is far from a "smart" read and not anywhere near the deep end. There were a few times where Callie made some decisions that I thought dragged the story out longer than it should, but I would say in general I liked this one.
Unfortunately, I would only pass this book on to my lady friends. I don't think the men would enjoy this read at all. Too light and cute!

I really liked this book.
Normally really enjoy these books and the story line is cute but Michelle Obama--really!?! That was annoying and kept glaringly front and center. Might (read might) not have been so bad if the Betty Boop references were as consistent but every single time, I read Obama's name it took me out of the story....maybe I just don't like politics or too many current references but it drove me nuts throughout the book!

So good I read the whole thing in one day - made me laugh, made me cry. Callie is a delightful heroine and watching her interact with stoic Ian is a treat. Real character development and a zany assortment of secondary characters rounded out this fun read.
This is the first time I've read a book by this author. I plan to read more of her stories. All I Ever Wanted is a fun story about a very cheerful, people pleasing, PR executive trying to get over the love of her life by starting a relationship with the town's handsome, stern veterinarian who needs her PR help to make him a more approachable vet. The secondary characters, especially the heroine's mother, sister, grandfather, and father, are just hilarious and endearing. I especially loved the snarky mother and grandfather.
What I liked about the story: This book is better than most chick lit books. It's a fast paced crazy story that is perfect for when you want to read a heartwarming contemporary romance although it took nearly two thirds of the book to get to the romance. When I say romance, I mean a non-steamy romance. I'm used to way more detail in my books, but it's refreshing to have a story where some love scenes are left to the imagination. It's also nice that the men in this contemporary romance aren't ex-Special Forces or ex-Navy SEALS, nor is there some really evil villain just waiting to harm the heroine, and there isn't some huge misunderstanding that takes up much of the book. The hero's lack of social skills made me wonder if he had Asperger's Syndrome. The heroine even mentions that he might have a touch of Asperger Syndrome. As someone who is familiar with the diagnosis, I think the hero had more than a touch though.
I love the cover of the book. It fits the details of the story very well.
The ending came a bit fast and somewhat abruptly, but I would definitely read more from this author.

This story was drawn out. There was no climax just a bunch of small hills. All her books have the greatest characters and this one did not disappoint.

A feel good romantic book!
Really liked this book. It was a little different, but I could hardly put it down. Sweet story.
This was an easy read, perfect for a night in. I laughed until my sides ached, then cried, then laughed some more. The story is about a young woman â Callie Grey â in a Vermont village who wants to be loved. She thinks she's in love with her boss until he breaks off their ârelationship.â Then she meets the town's new veterinarian, a quiet (read âaloofâ) new resident. Their initial sparks are anything but romantic, but maybe this will turn into something more. The book is both sweetly hilarious and heart-breakingly sad. I'll be looking for more of Kristan Higgins' books.
