I'm glad others enjoyed this book ... but good ghod! .... all Sirantha Jax does is complain, whine, and have "Oh poor poor me" moments with herself. No enjoyment in this book at all.
I wanted to slap her upside the head and yell, "Get over it!"
I hoped for more about 245/Constance. I'll get the next book if it's about it/her .... otherwise, fuhgeddaboudit!

Overall, I found that this book was slower-paced than Grimspace in a good way. Things feel like they take the right amount of time. I don't think the story needs to have constant action, and it was good to have some lulls (resting between battles, a non-eventful space trip once in a while, more planning, more quiet moments). There is still plenty going on of course, lots of suspense and action, its just not all of the book. This was a good thing.
Besides Vel, March, and Dina who were introduced in Grimspace , a couple new people join their crew - Hit, a skilled fighter and pilot, and Jael, an ex-mercenary. Both with complicated pasts, as with everyone in Jax's circle. Hit and Dina get along very well, and there are hints at a blossoming relationship between the two women - I really liked how this was written - like they fit together easily, without much fuss or fanfare, but still it seems like something special. Meanwhile March and Jax's relationship continues to evolve, and it's not easy for them. Aguirre throws an interesting wrench into things, and I'm waiting to see how it gets resolved in later books. I've been quite pleased with the writing in terms of the snappy dialog between people, and the growing friendships in the crew. The characters in the book all intruiged me, not just Jax and March. Even Jax's personal assistant 245 interested me! So - I felt totally satisfied after reading this book because - I still want to know what happens next, which is what you want to have when you know there's another book coming along. And I think my interest will probably last until the next book comes out. Plus, it felt like a great escape to read the book. Good space opera fun.

Futuristic tale by Ann Aguirre, and sequel to Grimspace. Sirantha is broke, and has no job. So, she agrees to be the job of Ambassador to the world of Ithess-Tor, the homeworld of bounty hunter, Vel. But, there are factions that don't want an Alliance with a world of bug-like aliens. So, Sirantha is kept busy, trying to get to her destination in one peice, trying to find out why her health is poor, and doing a lot of self-examination. She is joined by her crew from "Grimspace," and some others. I enjoyed the book. Sirantha is kick-ass, but still insecure about who she is, and who she wants to be. The book leaves me wanting to go out and buy "Double Bind," right away. Good story.
Though I really enjoyed Grimspace, I had some difficulties for the first half of Wanderlust engaging with the characters. Too much was happening with not enough real character development for me to establish the same sort of love for them that I had in the first book. It was still a quick and entertaining read, though, simply because the author's voice pulls it all along at a clip too fast to truly disappoint. At midway, I was prepared to give the book 3 stars and be done with the series.
But then the characters got to come to the foreground again. The pell-mell action was still there, but it finally got tempered by the vivid characterization that had leapt from the pages in the first book. There really isn't a flat character in the bunch, so I can't say I have any favorites. I'm fascinated by Jael and Hit, but Vel has a soft spot in my heart. And Jax, Dina, and March are their own special entities. Because of the characters' fire, I finished the book much more satisfied than I thought I would be, especially considering its rather hodgepodge nature plotwise. I'm eager to read more in this universe again, though now I have to wait. Not too long, I hope.

Second in series about a "jumper"- who can take a spaceship through grimspace- a much faster way to travel. Sirantha Jax was freed from unjust imprisonment in book 1, and in book 2 is cleared and named ambassador to a planet which is vital to the federation of planets in preventing a takeover. This is like an adult Star Wars, with a likeable heroine, some romance and sex, lots of aliens and fighting. Good fun.
Jax as a weak, scared, little thing for most of this book is really annoying me. Couldn't she care for others and be concerned over their well beings like she wants to while still being the strong little spit fire she was in the first book? She isn't even sarcastic or humorous in her internal dialogue anymore. It's all self pity and fear. It seems like she spends a majority of the book allowing others to make decisions for her while she hides away from everyone else. This personality shift of hers also leads to all sorts of problems with her and March's relationship which made me sad.
It's also weird that this book seems to have nothing to do much with the proposed plot from the books description. The majority of the book is spent on Lanchion fighting the Clan war and dealing with the Syndicate instead of going on to Ithiss-Tor for her diplomatic mission. The action though was written extremely well with tons of suspense and assures the reader that no character is safe from injury like one would expect.
The secondary characters in this book are what I really adore. Doc, Dina, Vel, and Jael shine. They each have such interesting personalities, quirks, and actions that I can't wait for them to join a scene. Dina and Jax's back and forth conversations are the only thing assuring me that there is still something humorous in Jax's personality.
All in all I really enjoyed it for the crazy amounts of action and the twists in characters towards the end, and read it straight through in a day! I couldn't put it down and now can't wait to get my hands on the last book Doubleblind especially since this book has no real ending what so ever!

Where to start? Jax is a wonderfully strong character with the right amount of vulnerability.
"I could counter that he's mad for loving me, but that might make him question it. And I don't want that, even though I'm afraid of hurting him, afraid of losing him. Afraid of damn near everything. But I refuse to let it paralyze me."
New characters join Jax's team; Jael and Hit. Both are great additions and I love how they all work together to accomplish their tasks. Not sure where Jax's and March's relationship is going (or not going). (Anyone who picks this up and expects a romance/HEA: adjust your expectation now. This is gritty, knock-your-socks-off sci-fi with a kick-ass female heroine who has to go through a lot of shit.)
My only issue is Jax had/has too much of a guilt complex and blames herself for things that aren't her fault (at least not directly).
I enjoyed this just as much as Grimspace. Ann Aguirre is going on my auto-buy list!
