Newman writes engaging historical mysteries and this one is no exception. I've been reading my way through all the Catherine LeVedeur books and haven't been disappointed yet. I must admit, I found this one a bit slow going at first, but then suddendly I was hooked and hard-pressed to put it down.

These are great books! I have all but 2 of them, and have read all but 2. I just can't put them down.

The history is wonderfully done, not dry but it paints a very vivid picture of what life wa like then.

The charaters are perfect, they could walk right out of the book. They have flaws, and are very human, and I love them. They seem real, which as far as I am concerned, makes a great book. The mysteries are complex and twisting, and it is hard to put them all together, but I like that. It's not much of a story if you can figure out the mystery before the charaters do.

I highly recommend this series. These will NOT be re-listed from ME. But I am sure you can find some here.

Third in the Catherine LeVendeur medieval mystery series, this one set in Paris. A relic has been stolen from the Salisbury Cathedral, the arm of St. Aldhelm, a Saxon bishop. Catherine and her husband Edgar are implored by her father to assist in finding it and bringing those who stole it to justice. Meanwhile, a shady member of the Jewish community appears on Elizar's doorstep asking a favor and is turned away, only to die a few days later in Elizar's basementâon top of Catherine, who had gone down there to get some beans from a crock for dinner. Suspicion against Elizar by his own people puts a big strain on family relations. Very enjoyable book in the series, difficult to put down.
