The stunning things that hit me while reading this book were just how long Disney had to believe in himself before he was successful and the fact that he was barely out of the woods (barely solvent) when he started building his amusement park in California. I remember watching Walt Disney every week on television, telling some part of his dreams for the future.

It was shocking to read how much of a task-master he was with his employees. On television, he often showed animators at work and they seemed cordial. On television, Disney was always smooth and confident. I guess that is why he was the salesman and Roy worked the books.

I was delighted to hear the truth about Disney's burial. He was cremated; the rumor that still makes its way around is the belief that he was frozen (until such time as there was a possibility of regenerating life). I'm relieved about that; I always thought he was too down-to-earth to have such a fantastical notion.

Over the years, I've read several adult and kid-level books about Walt Disney. This one showed in gritty detail just how hard Disney had to work to be successful. This book is well-worth the readier's time.
